astronomy course
If i want to be astronomer and interested in Astronomy, which course should I major in?

There are very few jobs in astronomy if you don’t have a PhD in astronomy or physics (and not all that many even if you do). You’d major in physics in college, and take classes in astronomy (double major if they offer it, but if they don’t, that’s fine), math, and computer science. Spend your college summers doing research at your school and others (look up REU programs) to make sure this is really what you want to do with your life, and to get experience for grad school. Grad school is another 4-8 years, and most jobs in the field expect you to do 2-6 years of postdoc work after graduate school before getting a ‘real’ job. Since there are so few jobs in the field, you take what you can get – so don’t plan on getting much of a choice at all over where you end up living.

Near-Earth asteroid Apophis (circled) on theday it was discovered, 19th June 2004. Initialcalculations showed that there was a chance thatit would strike Earth at its close approach on13th April 2029. Subsequent studies have shownthat it will miss Earth, but only by around 36, 000kilometres, the same distance at whichgeostationary satellites orbit Earth. Thisapproach may deflect it enough for it t…
